This is what happens when your staff are not trained to use social media.
Like sexual harassment, health and safety, bribery, slavery, inclusion, diversity, etc just a few subjects that you cannot leave to chance and cannot assume that common sense will prevail with your employees.
So you train them. The same with social media.
This is where companies will say, the way we control this is to ban people from using social media. Or they create processes that summarised mean you are fired if you use social media.
The problem with this is that, the genie is out of the bottle.
You cannot stop people using their own devices at work.
The other issue is that you have to be on social to be visible to your clients .... if you are not on social you are leaving money on the table.
We know that all forms of interrupt marketing; advertising, cold calling email, does not work. You have to move your Marketing to permission based. This means you have to be on social.
Our advice would to use an independent third party, but of course we are biased.
Tonight something truly awful happened to me, I received a sales enquiry through LinkedIn that used our cancer story to try and make a connection with me to get a sales lead. It has driven me to write a post about the dark side of cancer. And how there are so many people out there ready to exploit or use cancer to their own end. It is disgusting, it leaves you feeling violated and it needs to be called out.
