What do River Phoenix and LinkedIns covers story feature have in common?

They were both taken from us far too young.

BUT.

Rejoice brothers and sisters for although LinkedIns old covers story feature has left us (BOO) 😭

Its new, sexier, hip, young cousin has just landed on the scene (YAY) 🤘

Your profile will never be the same again.

I present to you the new Profile Video which replaces the old cover story feature.

So what’s new, what’s changed and how can I get my sweaty palms on it?

Knowledge Bombs incoming 💣

• From your feed you’ll now see a purple ring around peoples noggins who have profile videos enabled.

• When you click on this it will automagically open the profile video and play it right from the feed!

• Giving you a much easier path into people and warming up that relationship much more quickly.

• BECAUSE viewers can Follow or Message you directly from your Profile video!

• New Analytics let you see how many people have viewed your profile video. Super useful for conversion.

• Replace your old cover story with a new profile video (by re-uploading) and you’ll see all the new features.

• When you do your audience will also be notified in the feed that you have updated it!

• They can then DM you from that notification! A great conversation starter.

If you don’t have it yet, try updating your LinkedIn app on mobile.

Then simply delete and re-upload your video (you can still use your existing one, but what better way to give it a shot in the arm than updating it with a brand new spangly one).

Video Guide

• Remember to look straight at the lens.

• This is what we call your eyeline and this is your audience.

• Keep your phone or recording device vertical.

• Try and lock you phone off by using a tripod, or get creative and switch up locations and go for for a handheld feel if you’re feeling bold!

• LinkedIn profile videos are vertical.

• Think about your client avatar and potential audience and how you will be DIRECTLY addressing them.

• Tell a fully formed story with a clear beginning, middle and end.

• Be as natural as possible and don’t use jargon.

• Remember you are a human talking to another human, so make sure you have a written script to work with.

• This will stop you thinking about what you’re going to say and let you focus on the delivery, and most of what you are doing with video is non verbal.

• By breaking it down into chunks via scripting, it keeps the energy levels up and keeps your audience on their toes. It’s much more engaging than a static shot with no edits for 30 seconds!

• This will make it easier to read so you can just concentrate on the delivery.

• Use a good quality lighting setup, there are some resources on my featured section to help with this

• Add captions, this can be done through services like rev or Zubtitle, or if you have an iphone directly in the apple clips app.

• Add in an emotional element.

Don’t think profile videos are relevant, I have personally closed over £28k of business from mine alone so far. A pretty good ROI.
