In this article by ZDnet, they raise the subject that we as a business know we need to go digital but how do we do it?
One of the issues out there is that "digital" seems to be the expertise of everybody, though we know in our heart of hearts this just isn't the case.
Let's look at people have wasted time, effort and budget.
1. Digital is about the people and process in your company, not IT systems. You can renew as many of your IT systems as you like, this does not make you digital. Digital comes from empowering your employees to be human centric.
2. Digital skills are not internal. The reason why you are need to be digital is now a business imperative, you will also know that the skills you need are not in your business. You have to look outside.
3. When you look outside, you need to get people into your business who are digital. Look at a companies social media profiles, do they have buyer-centric profiles? Are the people you are looking to work with, walking digital corridors and having digital conversations? Or are these people just saying they are digital, when it's clear they don't have a clue?
This project is about reshaping the business world, it's about you getting competitive advantage and gaining market share, having the right digital team is critical.
"It's great having this big tech strategy, but employers are struggling to find the people to execute their plan," says Andrew Whytock, head of digitalization at the pharmaceutical division at Siemens, quoted in the report.
To quote the ZDNET article
"The emerging digital enterprise of the 2020s may have all the latest and greatest technology installed, but it takes skilled and passionate people to design, build and, very importantly, maintain such capabilities. Yes, much of it can be turned over to cloud service providers, but people still need to understand what services are needed, and how to fit them into the business."
As the KPMG team puts it: "To retain customers and market share, companies must continuously improve digital capabilities and think differently about how to use technologies to better deliver to target audience expectations. Additionally, companies must carry out future scoping to ensure technology selection and workflow design to align with customer needs and expectations."
“Digital investment and transformation strategies must always continue to adapt to new conditions and opportunities, or digital leadership won’t last long.”
Survey shows a huge drive to digital, but stymied by talent shortages.
