Here is some great advice from Insider about how to get headhunted for your next job by using your social media profiles.
Remember the time to do this is now, don't wait until you get laid off, you need to find time.
In a recent post by Robert Tearle he itemised how many social media profiles he looked at to get down to a short list of 5 candidates.
You can see that competition is acute and if you wanted to be headhunted you at least want to be part of the 40 - 50 connected calls so you can sell yourself and move the the next stage.
The case for having a "great" profile on social media to get head hunted
"Social networks have become indispensable tools for employees, allowing them to market themselves to maximize their professional success.
More and more managers and executives have also started to discover the advantages of a strong social-media profile.
They need to convey traditional parts of their jobs, such as delivering presentations and interacting with employees and business partners, in a digital format.
This is why headhunters now use these channels to search for and select suitable candidates.
And headhunters' clients want to hire managers who present themselves well online.
What headhunters look for on social media
Two key things headhunters want to see are empathy and the ability to inspire people through actions and behavior.
These are skills that successful managers must have.
Headhunters will try to look beyond things like the number of followers one has, however. C-suite positions are more about being an opinion leader, meaning that people in the industry listen to what you have to say.
The goal is to be the go-to voice in your own sector. That's why managers should also only publish serious and target-group-oriented posts on sites like LinkedIn. That applies equally to sharing posts from other profiles and any political content."
What are headhunters looking for in sales people?
The same goes for salespeople, head hunters are looking for people who can demonstrate they understand digital today, it's best to have a certified social selling qualification, like the one DLA Ignite have, which is backed by the Institute of sales professionals.
This isn't about being flashy, or self promotional, this is about you being authentic, demonstrating your expertise.
"It's also important that a candidate's profile isn't empty and outdated. Having no content leaves a bad impression and a headhunter will quickly lose interest.
Even a seemingly small lapse can prevent headhunters from shortlisting a candidate. For example, if a recruiter is looking for a head of sustainability, and they see that a potential candidate has posted a story with their sports car next to them, the person will very likely be deemed unsuitable for the role."
The mistake that people make on Linkedin is that this is a shop window for your company and its products. Not at all. This is a shop window for you.
What is it that will stop people scrolling and thinking boring, boring, boring and get them stop stop and think "that's intriguing". It's the same for your prospects and customers as it is for head hunters.
We want to see the real you, as I say above, not in a show off way, but something that demonstrates you are human, you have empathy, something that shows your leadership and expertise.
You are different from everybody else, your experiences, your skills, your achievements.
