I'm currently in La Gomera, for my Birthday

I've also got my Mum and her boyfriend here

La Gomera is a place where my mum used to come with my Dad

She's been here 15 times and it's a happy place with lots of happy memories

At 87 she doesn't think she will be able to travel after this visit

On my Birthday she took, Julie, Mum's boyfriend and I out for dinner

She told the story of the day I was born ….

Mum had two poor maternity experiences previously

Doctors had advised her to leave London for my delivery

So Mum was staying with her parents in Evesham, Worcestershire

First of all I was two weeks late

Mum said she woke up at 4:00 AM and called to her parents that the baby was coming

My grandfather, drove her to Evesham, Maternity hospital

Driving through red lights to get there as fast as he could

Mum then had to walk up these stairs to get into the Maternity Unit

I was then a phenomenon known as “en caul birth

Which is where a woman gives birth to a baby without the water breaking first

It's also known as a “mermaid birth” or “veiled birth”

This happens in only 1 in 80,000 births, making it extremely rare

It might look like your newborn is completely gift-wrapped in a soft bubble

As with all things rare and babies, some cultures and traditions believe that en caul births are spiritual or even magic

Being born en caul is seen as a sign of good luck for both baby and parents

Parents and midwives in some cultures even dry and save the caul as a good luck charm

One myth is that babies born en caul can never drown (But beware: This isn’t true)

According to folklore, babies born en caul are destined for greatness

En caul and caul births are linked to so much superstition that many famous people are said to have been born with a caul

And that's the story my mum shared with us
