Total Eclipse of the Memory

A friend of mine recently broke the sad news to me that Bonnie Tyler had passed away. We took a moment to pay our respects to a true legend and honestly, the 80s wouldn't have been the same without her. Linking up with songwriter and producer Jim Steinman gave us absolute anthems like "Holding Out for a Hero" and "Total Eclipse of the Heart," a track so massive it sold over 13 million copies worldwide and launched her UK chart-topping album Faster Than the Speed of Night. We both agreed her passing was a huge loss to music.

Then my friend, who went on a sales club trip with me to Hong Kong back in the 90s, looked at me with a fond smile and said, "It was a great concert, wasn't it?"

I stared back at him completely blankly. I had zero idea what he was talking about.

Apparently, back in the 90s, I went to an actual, full-blown Bonnie Tyler concert in Hong Kong. I don't recall a single lyric, a single spotlight, or a single raspy note.

It turns out I had a fantastic night out, I just had to wait 30 years for a witness statement to confirm I was actually there.

Every now and then I fall apart, but clearly, my memory did it first. The concert may have been a total eclipse of my brain, but judging by the blackout, I must have had the time of my life holding out for a hangover.
