The Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina is arguably the most iconic glacier in Patagonia
Located within Los Glaciares National Park, it stretches an astonishing 30 km (19 miles) in length and 4.8 km (3 miles) in width
You can read about it, see photos, and watch documentaries, but it’s not until you get up close that you truly grasp its sheer size, its beauty, and that unforgettable shade of blue
The photo I took was meant to show its scale, but even then, words and pictures hardly do it justice
Our cruise started in Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world and sailed to Cape Horn, the very tip of South America
From there, we passed countless glaciers, visiting several by rib boats before finally arriving at Perito Moreno
The journey continued to El Calafate, but it was the glacier experience that left the biggest impression
I’ll admit, I went into the trip thinking a cruise might be a bit “naff"
In reality, it was an absolute blast, especially because we somehow became the “cool kids” table on board
But the real magic was in the glaciers themselves: standing close enough to feel their icy breath, seeing their vivid blue glow, walking across their frozen surfaces with crampons, and in those days, sipping a drink with a chunk of glacier ice in it. It was simply “wow"
Conclusion
This journey was more than just a cruise, it was a lesson in perspective
Being surrounded by such raw natural power and beauty of nature was humbling and unforgettable
If you ever get the chance to visit Patagonia, do it
See the glaciers. Feel the cold. Take in that brilliant blue
It’s a memory that will stay with you forever
