It’s amazing how the science of the world can change.
In the early 1500s, the universally accepted worldview was the geocentric model. For over 1,400 years, this cosmological framework, championed by Ptolemy and upheld by the Catholic Church, posited that a stationary Earth sat at the exact center of the universe.
When I started selling back in the 1980s, there were no mobile phones, no internet, no social media, and certainly no AI. When I picked up the phone to cold call, I got the distinct feeling people actually enjoyed it, it was how they heard what was happening in the world of software development.
Then came Galileo in the 1600s. Among other breakthroughs, he built a telescope and helped prove that the Sun was at the center of our solar system, advancing Copernican heliocentrism.
His championing of the heliocentric model met fierce opposition. In 1615, the Roman Inquisition investigated his work, concluding that his findings directly contradicted accepted Biblical interpretation. He was tried, found "vehemently suspect of heresy," forced to recant, and spent the remainder of his life under house arrest.
Throughout his trial, Galileo kept telling his accusers: "Look through the telescope." He knew that if they just looked, they would see the truth with their own eyes.
Of course, they refused.
Today, psychologists call this belief perseverance, the refusal to change your mind even when presented with clear, undeniable evidence that you're wrong.
In the decade we’ve been in business, we have spoken to hundreds of leaders who literally allowed their companies to go bust rather than "look through the telescope."
At Azpertilo.ai, we looked at the data and research, then completely reimagined sales and marketing for the AI age. We skip the time wasted on endless AI pilots and avoid the nonsense of “AI washing”, tacking AI features onto 30-year-old legacy systems. Instead, we help you fast-forward your business three years overnight.
I get it. Many of you are still attached to the "geocentric" sales model, relying on cold calling, email spam, and blast messages on social media. To many, what I’m saying sounds like heresy. Those 40-year-old processes are comfortable, and they worked back when I started out.
But the world has shifted.
Maybe it’s time to look through the telescope.
