Is your LinkedIn profile a better salesperson than you are?
It’s a question I ask a lot of salespeople.
They usually look at me as if I’ve gone completely mad
So I ask them a follow-up: how do you actually win sales?
Always, the answer can be summarised as: “it started with a conversation.”
Why a conversation?
Because in a two-way dialogue, you, the salesperson, are in total control
If this is the fundamental truth of business, why do we still stick to cold calling, spam email, advertising, and brochures?
All of those legacy tactics hand control straight over to the buyer
There is no conversation
If you create a brochure, make a cold call, send a spam email, or place an ad and say you do X, you are completely reliant on the buyer to act
You’ve given them all the control
And if they don’t want X right now? You lose the sale
In a conversation, the dynamic changes entirely
If you are talking about X and they say they don't want X, but mention they are interested in Y, you can pivot
You move the conversation on and you sell them Y
So, if your LinkedIn profile isn't as good a salesperson as you, why are you treating it as if it is?
I doubt anybody will ever buy your services just by looking at your LinkedIn profile
So stop hoping they will
Buyers have retreated into the zone of resistance and they use social to form opinions
If we know that conversations create sales, then why not set your LinkedIn profile up to create conversations?
Conversations that you can actually pick up, nurture, and close
Conclusion
It’s a subtle difference in your digital behaviour, but I can assure you it is one that will make a massive difference to your baseline. Stop treating LinkedIn like a static, corporate brochure and start treating it as a gateway to human connection. When you shift your profile from a pitch deck to a conversation starter, you unlock true digital influence, scale your pipeline, and drive predictable commercial outcomes
