In the song Moonage Daydream by David Bowie, the lyrics go like this

"I'm an alligator
I'm a mama-papa comin' for you
I'm the space invader
I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you

Keep your mouth shut
You're squawking like a pink monkey bird
And I'm bustin' up my brains for the words

Keep your 'lectric eye on me, babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream, oh yeah!"

David used a technique for this which he called “cut ups”

He got this system from William S. Burroughs, who created a process of literally cutting up existing texts in order to generate new meanings with their rearranged pieces

David wrote out the lyrics of a song, then cut each line up and threw them in the air, to give them new meaning

"I'm an alligator
I'm a mama-papa comin' for you
I'm the space invader
I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you…"

Is purely random ….

What's my point and how does this relate to B2B?

I'm not sure about you, but when I read people's Linkedin profiles, I do wonder what on earth the people mean, for example, what does this mean?

“Here's what I used to do: Proven ability to architect and lead solutions for complex, cross-functional problems with 7-8 figure P&L impact across three projects in two verticals. Track record of partnering Finance on P&L forecasting and stewardship of budgets ranging from US$35-US$70M in three different roles. 20+ year career across 5 verticals with 5 years’ formal leadership roles, including Director-level position at Changi Airport Group. Specialized in marketing analytics and unit economics where I bridged data science, creative strategy, and financial modeling to drive measurable business outcomes.”

Surely this is where somebody has written something, thrown it up in the air and put it out there hoping somebody will read it and spend the time, working out what on earth it all means.

When you write anything on LinkedIn, stop using fancy words that you think will impress, they don't.

Remember to KISS

The KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) principle was popularised by Lockheed engineer Kelly Johnson in the 1960s

If there is any ambiguity in your writing a reader will find it, so keep it simple

Remember, we're not David Bowie and what actually worked for him, actually hinders us
