In this recent article by Tomasz Tunguz, he asks the question

“If every employee starts managing agents, how does a company change?”

Recent research shows that “83% of global leaders say AI will let employees take on more complex, strategic work earlier in their careers.”

Which makes sense, but at Tomasz points out there is a bigger transition taking place, he says

"One executive recently framed this transition of teams evolving to three areas of work : operational, tactical, & strategic

Operational work can be mostly fully automated today

Agents are chomping away at tactical work - better accuracy will improve their share

Humans will focus on strategy work, but likely assisted by AI"

So why are us workers turning to AI?

“When asked why they turned to AI instead of a colleague, employees cited 24/7 availability (42%), machine speed and quality (30%), and unlimited ideas on demand (28%) as the top reasons—all things humans cannot provide.”

I'm not sure about you, here at DLA Ignite, we love AI but are finding the memory capabilities still lacking.  We know this is still “version 1.0” and that things will get better with time

We are flattered that we are pushing AI to the edge of it's capability

(if you didn't know we have created a AI teammate for sales)

AI will change how we work and it will change our business works

It looks like this will play out by

  1. Where we were yesterday, which is “human with assistant” where an employee has access to ChatGPT or any other LLM, moving onto where we are today
  2. Which is “Human agent teams”, where agents join teams as digital colleagues taking on tasks, for example our own Sales Team Mate, then
  3. “Human lead, agent operated” where humans set direction and agents executive business process and workflows, with humans checking in as needed

In conclusion, we are witnessing the early stages of a seismic shift in the workplace—one where AI is no longer just a tool, but a teammate

As operational and tactical tasks are increasingly delegated to agents, human focus will move further upstream to strategic decision-making, creativity, and leadership

This evolution is not about replacement but realignment, freeing up human potential while redefining how value is created and delivered

At DLA Ignite, we see this not as a threat, but an opportunity

The future of work is being written now, and those who learn to lead with AI, rather than fear it, will be the ones shaping what comes next
